New Business Referrals & Policy Cancellation Update
Orchid is seeing a record number of New Business submissions this year, and you may have noticed a daley in the turnaround time for your New Business referrals. While we appreciate your continued support of Orchid, we want to make sure that you are informed on common New Business referrals to avoid, as well as important policy cancellation information. Please see below to learn more.
New Business Updates For All States

Rental Only usage on HO3 and HO5 policies will not be accepted. Rental Only properties must be written on a DP3.

Extended Replacement Cost Coverage on DP3 policies will not be accepted. Please ensure your DP3 quotes do not include this coverage.

$1M in Personal Liability will greatly limit, or eliminate, available carriers. We encourage you to select a lower limit to increase your options.

Property Updates:
-
Exceptions to electrical updates greater than 30 years may be available. Please be prepared to submit photos and a 4-point inspection.​

Plumbing, HVAC updates must be less than 30 year old.

Florida Only:
-
There is a 5% minimum Wind Deductible for all Florida policies.​

HO6 (condo) policies require a minimum of $100k Coverage A (Tri-County minimum is $150k Coverage A). Do not submit quotes for Coverage A less than these minimums.

Please note, Underwriting is not accepting requests to verify or negotiate quotes due to the increased number of referrals and the current market.
Policy Cancellation Information

Submit a completed and signed LPR (with correct effective dates). LPRs must include supporting documents within a week of the case being opened or the cancellation will be closed without processing.

Canopius (Vave) has its own rating system - we are unable to control what rates they return.

If the policy is cancelled within 90 days, MEP (25%) applies, with the exception of property that is sold, demolished, underwriting reasons, or rewritten with Orchid.

If a Wind Only policy is cancelled between June 1, 2023 and November 1, 2023, we retain 75% of the premium.

If a home's exterior and/or interior inspection has been completed, we retain all fees.

Reminder: Cancellation Request / Policy Release
As a reminder, when completing the Cancellation Request / Policy Release form, please make sure that the "Name and Address" field at the bottom, left corner is completed. This will ensure that any return premium is sent to the correct recipient and address.
